"E-PORT AN" awarded environmental and business prize

August Wilhelm Henningsen, Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Technik AG, accepted the GreenTec Award 2014 for the aviation category on behalf of the Lufthansa Group in Munich on 04 May, 2014. The renowned prize was awarded for "E-PORT AN", a joint project of partners Lufthansa Group, Fraport AG, the State of Hesse, and the Rhine-Main Electromobility Model Region.

"We are delighted that our electromobility project has been honored with the GreenTec Award," says August Wilhelm Henningsen. "The Lufthansa Group is investing in environmentally friendly technologies, not only in the air but also on the ground. This includes the development and deployment of electric propulsion technology for surface taxiing operations. It is our goal to limit emissions and noise to a minimum here, too."

Several innovative technology projects at Frankfurt Airport are subsumed together under the title "E-PORT AN". The scope of the projects ranges from electric towing of wide body aircraft to self-contained electric taxiing for continental aircraft and from electric vehicles for catering and cargo transport to solar-powered air stairs. Lufthansa Technik has been honored for testing the projects within the electromobility concept for apron movements.

The GreenTec Award is Europe's most important environmental and business prize.
